N. Turkuler Isiksel
N. Türküler Isiksel works in contemporary political theory and is particularly interested in political institutions beyond the nation-state. Her dissertation proposes that the supranational legal order of the European Union represents a new, pragmatic form of constitutionalism. She focuses on three supranational constitutional processes as emblematic of this new model and the normative issues it raises: first, the fundamental rights jurisprudence of the European Court of Justice, second, the practice of ‘market citizenship’ in the EU, and third, the development of supranational norms of non-discrimination.
Türküler is also interested in the history of political thought, particularly the evolution of ideas about commerce and international politics in Enlightenment thought. Other research interests include constitutional theory, EU law, postnational citizenship, human rights, and Turkey-EU relations.
At Yale, Türküler has taught undergraduate courses in contemporary political theory, political philosophy, international trade regimes, and EU law, and has served as a McDougal Graduate Teaching Fellow. Between ‘05-‘07, she was the student coordinator of the Yale Political Theory Workshop. She is a former president of the European Youth Parliament and was raised in Istanbul.
