Our department is one of the nation's leading centers for teaching and research in political science. We are home to more than 40 faculty, 100 PhD students and over 300 undergraduate majors, the second most in Yale College. The Department sponsors numerous seminars, lectures, and conferences contributing significantly to the intellectual life on campus, all of which are open to undergraduates.  We offer research opportunities to students in the major, including resources for field-work on senior projects.

Students can declare as a Political Science major in their sophomore or junior year. Advisers should be consulted about the choice of courses and developing a coherent program of study. Juniors select a faculty adviser, usually one associated with their residential college.
Students who are interested in the Political Science major are encouraged to discuss the program with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Susan Stokes.
